World day of the 2014 Vision
DAY VISION 2014 WORLD CUP
The past October 31 was held at the University of Alicante the World Vision day with the slogan visual health for all, organized by the Department of optics, Pharmacology and Anatomy of the Faculty of science and the optometric clinic within the healthy University initiative. In the ground floor of the General library were designed four positions of graduation with which students of the fourth year of the degree in optometry conducted a visual screening everyone who wanted to participate in this event. In general terms, over 28% of 101 persons examined had a mechanical problem with their visual health. Recommended that all these people were made a thorough visual examination in the eye clinic of the University of Alicante.
Tests conducted by the students were supervised by a Faculty of titling and consisted of taking data from autorrefractometria, tonometry of no contact, assessment of the anterior segment using biomicroscopy, measurement of Heterophoria in far and close with the cover test, assessment of accommodative, measured flexibility with the TNO test Stereopsis, assessment of pupillary reaction and the State oculomotor tracking and saccadic (test NSUCO)visual acuity measurement using a logarithmic scale and valuation of the Isihara test color vision.
The high percentage of people who developed a visual problem is surprising. Of all the participants, more than 17% had no optical correction and Yes had a reduction in visual acuity, probably produced by a refractive error not corrected. In addition, another 5% had their outdated optical correction and needed to change it to improve your vision. Six cases that could exist any accommodative or binocular problems were detected. Anyway, these data can not be generalized to the total university population, as it's a non-representative clinical signs that may be influenced by the effect call that occurred in University advertising this event.
The day also served to publicize the functions of the optometric clinic, where a comprehensive health care service in visual health to the different components of the University of Alicante is provided to the University community: students, teachers and administrative staff. In addition, in the area of test and throughout the day, were projected on television screens several presentations on the degree of optics and optometry, visual health tips and the functions of the optometrist as a health professional.
Ultimately, from different levels of the University is it has coincided in pointing out the success of this initiative, both by the quality of the information provided to participants, and by the high degree of health education which was carried out to show the importance of the optometrist as a professional responsible for the care of the visual health of the population.
